Covid-19 Reponse

Our Response To COVID-19

We wanted to make everyone aware of our efforts to mitigate COVID-19 in our office. We started by removing everything from the office that cannot be easily sanitized with bleach, which is on the CDC list of approved disinfectants to kill COVID-19. We removed all rugs, soft pillows, heat packs, and other items that are not easily wiped down.

We blocked all the chairs but 1 at the check out desk and 1 near the entrance at the far end of the lobby to ensure plenty of space between any clients entering and exiting. These chairs, as well as any other item touched by clients and therapists are wiped down with a bleach solution immediately after they have been used to ensure the space is sanitized for the next client.

We require therapists to check their temperatures before coming to work every day. If they have a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, they are not to come to work. They must wash their hands for a full 20 seconds after every time they touch a client and use sanitizer throughout the day. All therapists will be wearing aprons and cloth masks as well the entire time they are in the office. The therapists aprons and masks are changed and washed after each client to prevent cross contamination from any clothing on the therapist that may touch a client during their massage.

We have stopped offering intraoral TMJ, but can still work on the outside of the jaw that is past the edge of the mask for people with TMJ issues. We also no longer offer paraffin dips or hot pack. For the time being, we are not offering couples massages to adhere to the 50% occupancy requirement for massage offices.

We have all appointments staggered to avoid having more than 1 client arriving or checking out at any given time, and allow for sanitizing in between clients.

We have added HEPA air filters with UV-C lights in each room, as well as at the check out desk in the lobby to help clean the air. We have switched our oil and lotion bottles from pumps to flip-top bottles to prevent any air from being sucked back into the bottle from the vacuum used in pump bottles, thereby eliminating a likelihood of cross contamination with the oil / lotion used in the massages.

All of our floors are sanitized each day with a steam cleaner, as heat has been proven to kill COVID-19. After every massage, all items in the therapy rooms are cleaned with bleach solution after every client including, but not limited to: the massage table, the disassembled face rest and sanitize the entire thing on all sides, the bench top and sides, the door handles, the light switches, the oil / lotion bottles, any tools used during the massage, the carts, and any other item that may have touched a client or their clothing or belongings. All our linens and face masks are cleaned with bleach and dried in high heat after each use. Hands are always washed and sanitized before ever touching clean masks. The bathroom sink, paper towel dispenser, grab bars, and toilet seat are sanitized after each use. The office gets a full wipe down with bleach solution on most items, and rubbing alcohol on anything electronic.

We have hand sanitizer in every therapy room, in the bathroom, and at several locations in the lobby including by the front door, and we use it often.

We have added signs throughout the office to remind people to wear masks, and instructions for proper hand washing procedures at every sink, and we now have touchless soap dispensers at each sink. The paper towel dispenser in the bathroom is also touchless. All trash cans have lids and foot pedals to open them.

We have covered the water fountains and will no longer have water or candy available in the lobby for clients after their massages to prevent people from removing their masks to have a snack or drink.

We ask that clients check their temperatures before coming into the office. If anyone has a temperature of 100 degrees F or above, we ask that they call and cancel their appointment. Anyone who is ill for any reason, will be unable to re-book for a period of 2 weeks.

Our doors will locked at all times to prevent people from walking into the office without being screened at the door.

We are asking all clients to remain in their car, or nearby area (not near the door to prevent clients from exiting from running into those entering) 10 minutes prior to their massages and wait for the therapist to call them 5 minutes prior to their massage to tell them they will unlock the door to allow them to enter.

We recommend clients to bring their own masks for their appointment. If a client does not have a mask, one will be provided to them before entering the office. We have a supply of sanitized cloth masks in a sealed container by the door if clients need a mask provided. We require that all clients wear a mask the entire time they are in our office.

Upon entering the office, the therapist will spray sanitizer on the clients hands and checks the client temperature with a touchless forehead thermometer. If a client has a fever, they will be asked to leave and will be rescheduled after 2 weeks.

The clients are then asked the following COVID screening questions:

  • Have you traveled commercially by plane or bus, been out of the country, or been to an area with a high infection rate in the last 2 weeks?
  • Have you had a fever in the last 24 hours of 100°F or above?
  • Do you now, or have you recently had, any respiratory or flu symptoms, sore throat, or shortness of breath?
  • Have you been in contact with anyone in the last 14 days who has been suspected of having or diagnosed with COVID-19 or has coronavirus-type symptoms?

If anyone answers yes to any of those questions, we will be unable to allow them to have a massage that day.

There is also a waiver clients must sign to receive massages that states: I understand that because massage therapy work involves maintained touch and close physical proximity over an extended period of time, there may be an elevated risk of disease transmission, including COVID-19. By signing this form, I acknowledge that I am aware of the risks involved and give consent to receive massage and bodywork from this practitioner.

Shoes are removed at the door by clients and socks are provided if the client does not have any. The therapists have dedicated inside office shoes that are stored in the break room and never worn outside the office.
